One Thousand Portraits Project: Portrait 2

lil gal

Body battered and spirit sagging after 11 hours of trek on a difficult terrain, I happened to reach a hamlet just when dusk was settling down in the valley.

I don’t need to be the king of the world,
As long as I’m the hero of this little girl
Heaven isn’t too far away….

Words from an old, favorite song (Heaven, by Warrant) tumble inside my head as this lil gal rejuvenates my spirit with her playful greeting of “Oi!” followed by a mischievous smile, as I walk past her humble dwelling.

I love her rosy cheeks and her playfully twisted foot.

And don’t miss her mother in the background, working peacefully on the traditional handloom machine.

I longed to talk to this lil gal, to befriend her and to know more about her but after that greeting she runs and hides behind her Mamma. I did manage to win her over the next day but that is a story for another day.
